Sydney is still a young city and not every corner can be reached with public transport. Traveling by car may be required.
When coming to visit Sydney with young children or babies, be aware there are laws that must be followed when traveling in a car. All children under the age of 7 years old must be in an Australian Approved child restraint seat. This means you can’t bring your seat from overseas to use in an vehicle on Australian roads. This laws applies to all states of Australia. You may be arguing that your countries safety standards are safer or as safe as Australia, but this does not matter. Your seats from overseas does not meet Australian Safety requirements.
In Australia all children under the age of 6 months must travel in a rearward facing position. All children under the age of 4 years old must be seated in a harnessed child car seat. Children between the age of 4 and 7 may sit on a booster along with the adult seat belt. Only children above 145cm in height may be traveling in a vehicle without any child restraint seats.
Child safety is important to Australia. Heavy fines apply with any parent failing to properly secure their child in a vehicle. Remember, the fine doubles during public holidays.
